Your face that finds it dull, the tip of your toe that finds it boring

Please look at me now

Put your cellphone down, don’t even think about turning your head

Let me know your type

날 골라 쓰면 돼 yeah
You can pick and use one of me, yeah

Oh, I place my hands onto your eyes

Oh 다가가 비밀에
Oh, I come closer to the secret

I will bring you to a completely new world

Yeah, open your closed eyes now, go!

Mix the colors in the palette, pick your filter

Which of me do you want

I’m your filter
Will change your world, I’m your filter

Apply to your heart

(OK) What do you think, are you getting the idea? Is it not enough yet?

(Yes) Girl you have your chance

I can be your Genie

How bout Aladdin?

I will become anything for you

날 골라 쓰면 돼 yeah
You can pick and use one of me, yeah

Oh, I will wrap you in my arms like your dream

Oh 은밀한 spec이야
Oh, they’re secret specifications

For you, I will be new every day

Being the same all the time is not fun

Mix the colors in the palette, pick your filter

Which of me do you want

I’m your filter
Will change your world, I’m your filter

Apply to your heart

Look at me who turned into a child all of a sudden

The more you look, the cuter I am, like crazy

Neither tastes nor standards matter in front of me

You become to want me and only me

Yeah
Yeah, because it’s you who made me

I’m a brand new filter that you have never seen before

Try entrusting yourself to me

So that you can see something more electrifying, pick your filter

Try saving only me

Na na na na na na na na na

Pick your filter
Pick your filter, try saving only me

Na na na na na na na na na

I’m your filter
I’m your filter, try entrusting yourself to me

We will become a new us

Ay, apply me to your heart

  1. Some of the comments also pointed this out and I can’t help but not comment on it.
I have been thinking about this for some time now. Ever since the album dropped I enjoyed the latin vibe-y guitar sounds and energetic dance melodies but I have a feeling the message is not as superficial as it sounds but has a deeper meaning. I also took notice of how it is in the “second part” or right after shadow and black swan. And it makes me think of the necessity to gain and be in the limelight in order to stay relevant with the audience/lover, in order not to be ignored or shoved aside of being casual or bland or boring; So not to have a fall that will hurt emotionally otherwise.

So the filtera are what makes him able to be an amazing performer able to fit to whatever theme or having different sides to his personality but I am thinking it is DEFINITELY deeper than that.

  2. Interesting takes, there. I think it can play both ways. He can either choose to be what he wants or choose to show the sides the fans will like to see most.
It’s also interesting that ,answers to these questions, what is a filter? And what is its purpose or use? can influence the message in the lyrics or intentions of the song.

  3. Hi. Thank you for your hard work like always. Filter is very intriguing because of an almost “narcissist” element in it with Jimin being well aware of his power. I mean it in a good way. But am I right in seeing the negative strains in the song? Like the malleability of his person almost in a way that makes him a puppet? Or How, at times, the audience is so hypnotized by the persona they wish to see or the one he wants them to see that it’s easy to forget that he’s more than that, a whole person? The lyrics feel like they would make a good tug of war commentary, not sure who has the greater pull though, Jimin or the consumers?

    • “Narcissist” might not be the right word in that Jimin isn’t focussed on himself, but I get what you’re saying about the angle being a bit unhealthy in a way. Jimin is fairly unashamedly demanding of people’s attention, and if he craves it so much that he’s ready to do whatever it takes to please his audience, even to the point where who he really is disappears entirely behind the facade, well, that can’t be good. At the same time he’s the everchanging chameleon performer, able to pull anything off, from cute to sexy, that’s what makes him so versatile and allows him to reach more people, I guess.
So “who has the greater pull?” is a very good question indeed, and we can only hope that in his private life Jimin has control over this, but as a performer I think he’s definitely the one in charge 🙂

      • Yeah, I used that word simply for the lack of a better one atm. But yes this sure launches an intriguing discussion, especially considering how widely different he is in and off stage. It’s impossible to gauge the actual motive but the lyrics hold a precarious balance between an unhealthy emotion and his dominating charisma. It’s just good to hear what others think about it. Thank You!

        • Also the position of the song in the album suggests a somewhat darker, or at least deeper, theme than just the playful teasing people seem to be getting from the song…
